A Commentary of The 10 Virgins

Matthew 25:1 " Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened to ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go you out to meet Him. Then all those virgins arose, and  trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go you rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But He answered and said, Verily I say to you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man comes.   So what is this all about? The Kingdom of Heaven ( which the scripture signifies as Gods grace and or His Glory) here it is that grace. The condition of the church is shown as the ten virgins, these virgins are professors ( homologia) those who claim that Jesus is their Lord, their lamps and their going forth to meet the bridegroom is their joint profession of the Gospel, and their expectation to joyfully meet Christ, who is the bridegroom here. Five virgins were wise and five were foolish, this shows the difference of those who profess Christ, some have lamps, they confess the Lord Jesus, but they have no oil, they do not have the truth of grace within themselves; but others the others have this oil, they have a true faith and love, which feeds their profession. The bridegroom tarries, this is Christ delaying His come to judgement. Their slumbering and sleeping show that even the best have weaknesses and troubles in life, and it is the deeper security of others in their sinful state. The bridegroom came at midnight, this is time of troubles and trials, as well as a time not looked for. The cry is made, the virgins trim their lamps, it is the care of  pious souls, especially as they see the signs of the Lords coming, they are preparing themselves for this meeting and to be received by Him. The foolish virgins realize that they are out of oil at the last minute, this lets us know, that hypocrites and those who profess Christ out of a "religious " heart will realize too late, that it is  a true regeneration, of grace by faith that opens the door, not merely religious duty. The asking of oil and the refusal of the others is that last ditch effort to try to get ito heaven, by associating with those who do have a relationship with Christ, those who though Gods grace have done good works, they try to go to buy oil, but its to late. We have one shot at this thing and its here and now,in this life, " as a tree falls so it must lie". Jesus encourages us to watch, that is to not only have the lamps ( the outward profession of Christianity) but also the oil, (grace by faith) to feed that lamp, because we do not know when He is coming back. So lets take the counsel of Solomon Ecc 9:10 Whatsoever your hands find to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisedom, in the grave, were you go. I know kind of a heavy way to end it, but i believe its important we get on our feet and get moving for the Lord! Amen
